Mojo Donuts continues expanding their business. They introduced their new Mojito Donut at their “Go Nuts for Donuts” event in celebration of National Donut Day. This took place for the first time at their new location, The Wharf, said the manager of Mojo Donuts.

National Donut Day took over social media yesterday with a lot of people posting pictures of their donuts. There are many donut shops that gave away free donuts on this day. Most of them being chain companies.

Jennifer Portillo, a recent FSU graduate, moved down to work in Miami and was out Friday afternoon enjoying the event.

“I haven’t really had the chance to explore much but I had heard about Mojo Donuts before coming here and heard about the event, so I thought I would come to see why these donuts were so famous,” she said. “I never expected them to be so unique and delicious, plus who doesn’t like a free donut.”

Mojo Donuts is based in Miami and has two stores: one located in Miami, known as "Mojo Donuts and Fried Chicken" and the other in Pembroke Pines. The third location of Mojo Donuts is a food truck at The Wharf which opened in November 2017.

Ever since the opening, Mojo Donuts has their food truck open Thursday through Sunday for events that go on in The Wharf.

Kori Peterson, the manager of Mojo Donuts at The Wharf location, was there to host the event and represent Mojo Donuts.

“We chose to have this event at The Wharf because we are a food truck here and it is National Donut Day, so we decided to make our own Wharf inspired donut to present today called the Mojito Donut,” she said. “Aside from that we have free mini donuts that were giving away to the customers that RSVP’d.”

"Mojo Donuts and Fried Chicken" was also recently featured in Guy Fieri’s Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives for their Chicken Brule Sandwich.

“A caramelized donut with a chicken tender in the middle and it has melted cheese on it and you can add egg and bacon to it.”

As they continue to introduce new flavors it keeps the customers coming back to try them out. Mojo Donuts introduced a new donut last week at their Miami location.

Carolina Espinosa, a student at FIU, made sure she had her rsvp ready to go for this event.

“I never miss out on National Donut Day, the fact that all these places are giving out donuts is so cool, and it’s these local businesses that don’t have basic flavors that really excites me,” she said. “Sweets are my go to, I could eat sweets all day.”

Mojo Donuts has promised to continue to bring new flavors to Miami as they keep expanding their business.

Now to wait 365 days for the next National Donut Day.
